Automatic sub-album based on date?

Is there any way, or any plan for a feature that would allow me to create sub-albums based on either the creation date of the image file or the data/time stamp in the file tags?

For example, I have a bunch of albums that I would like to break down into sub-albums. It would be great if there were a way to have sub-albums created for each month automatically. So the process would scan an album and create a sub-album with (AlbumName-YY-MM)?

Or is there an easy way for me to manually do this?
