Add Items From Local Server Error when checking multiple folders

Hi All;

I've been having some troubles using the add items from local server function. I uploaded a TON of photos (all in folders which I want to turn into albums) and I'd like to use it to create all the albums at once.

However, when I select all the folders, (I explicitly uncheck "create thumbnails now") and try to add the files, it times out. I get the following:

Quote:
Error 400!
INTERNAL SERVER ERROR

An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.

It does however create the first 2 albums correctly (but not the other bunch that I'm trying to make).

I'm thinking it's just too many folders/files to process all at once. Is there a work around or fix for this? Or do I have to create the albums one at a time?

Thanks!

Here are my settings:

on some servers it's no problem to add thousands of files at once.
looks like your server is not one of them. :)

it's one of our long-term tasks to make this a) more reliable and b) to add a progress bar to this process.

but that's both not available yet.

My web hosting company is 1and1.com. I thought they were a rather reliable company. Is there anything I should ask my web hosting company to improve?

Is there any performance tuning I can do to get it to work?

Thanks!

PS, I'm attempting to create approximately 325 albums with approximately 9500 photos (total of 12GB).

Should I not be expecting it to handle this amount?

if you're lucky, it could work.
but my suggestion is to add ~500-1000 files at once (just select some albums).
i tested with around 4000 files at once and it worked. but i've seen users complain that they can't even sdd 100 files at once. it really depends on the server and we're not doing a good job in "add item from server" to make it less dependent on the server yet.

Yea, it seems to work OK when I do smaller albums.

What should I complain to my web host about? More memory, CPU?

I read in the web hosting FAQ that I'm only allowed 20MB of memory for PHP. Could this be the problem?

you can't complain if you can't add 9000 files at once since this controller in g2 isn't well done for large mass operations yet.
other things are much better done in g2.

Update: We've just added a progress-bar and many improvements under the hood to make batch-adding items more reliable and user-friendly.

Upgrade to the next nightly snapshot of G2 including the itemadd module or wait for G2.3 (still months away) to get the improvements.

I use also use 1and1 and my db got corrupted. I tried installing all the builds (latest & bleeding) from scratch and tried loading just a small batch (local from server) ~30 pictures and the web says done even though the status bar isn't complete. The big problem is that my gallery had 20,000 pictures and now I have no way of getting the gallery back to the original state. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
