Couple of questions

Hey guys...I'm currently running Gallery2 and Wordpress on Ubuntu (not too sure of the versions as this box has been running flawlessly for a year and a half and I can't even remember the last time I even looked at it!!) and after hearing some awful sounds coming from that old box I figured it was time to look at moving my webserver elsewhere.

My first idea was to build another box but then I got to thinking about using VMWare and started to think of the best way to do it. I was thinking about imaging my current server and then somehow getting that image into a VM. I haven't really done any reading on whether that's even possible or not, but it's an idea. My next thought was to do a vanilla install of Ubuntu, or any other supported O/S, in a VM and then somehow migrate my current Gallery2 and Worp Press install into that VM. Again, haven't looked all that hard just yet at how feasible something like this would.

Then, I stumbled upon the Appliances on the VMWare site and found this. Wow. Great idea, guys. I think this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Now, with that said, I've got a couple of questions. Has anybody tried to move/migrate an existing Gallery install to your appliance? If so, is there any documentation? If not, any idea where I would start? How about any potential pitfalls/gotchyas that anybody can think of? Or, would I be better off pursuing one of my original ideas?

Thanks for your time,
JH

I haven't tried moving an existing install into the appliance, but the process should be the same as moving a "normal" G2 install ( http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:faq#How_can_I_move_my_gallery_installation_from_one_server_to_another.3F ).

To me this sounds like a great idea, but then again I'm a virtualization nut :-)
