This script modification will detect what type of movie file has been uploaded and load the according movie player when the user tries to view it. The file will play automatically. You can change the backgroundcolor of the movie window within the view_photo.php file. Other than that, you should not have to adjust anything else. -> <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://www.lwfy.com/downloads/gallerymovie.zip" TARGET="_blank">Download this file</A><!-- BBCode End --> <- and unzip the three files: view_album.php, view_photo.php, and util.php Upload those three files into your 'gallery' module folder (modules/gallery/) and then upload whatever type of movie you like, currently Windows Media, Quicktime, and Real Media are supported. I hope this helps somebody, because it wasn't really needed for my site, but it was fun to complete none the less. Let me know what (if anything) you think, Alex Edit:The most recent version is available: |

Alex, thanks for this AMAZING add-on! I was actually looking for JUST THAT! Can you help me with just one thing? When I click on the movie in Gallery, it shows the video with the "Please be patient..."-Text always on top of the picture - even when the video is running... How can I get rid of it?
- thanx again!

That's line 471 in the view_photo.php
if ($movie == 1) {echo "<span class=\"content\">Please wait patiently while the movie loads";}
And Alex - thanks a LOT for implementing and sharing this lovely script :D
If you guys want to see how it works, here's a sample. (3Mb)

I do not have a modules/gallery in my Gallery folder? Did you mean to simply replace those that were already in my gallery folder?
Thought I better clarify before just doing it.

bigbrofan,
The "modules" is referrenced for those who use Gallery within PHPNuke etc. It might be the case that adidan programed the mod specifically for that but just stick those files within your Gallery's main folderand give it a try and see. If it dosent work that means the target locations would need to be changed.
If you use the watermark MOD be warned both of those mods screwed my movies up. Working on that today.
Enjoy

yeah, the files go in the main gallery folder and replace the existing 3 files there.

Hmm, I copied these files in the gallery folder but I don't see any affect when I click on one of my movies. When I do a view source I do see the added code, however. Any ideas? I could PM my gallery in question, but I don't want to post it in a public forum. TIA!

What version of Gallery is this built from, 1.33?

Anyone still have this patch around since the download is no longer available. I'm about to code my own solution, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

adidan,
Hi adidan,
I used your scripts in Gallery 1.3.3, and now wanted to upgrade to 1.3.4. On my test machine, however, the newer version of Gallery won't work after copying the files view_album.php, view_photo.php, and util.php into the appropriate directory. Any chance you will make your great adaption available for 1.3.4??? I would greatly appreciate it - in fact, I will probably not upgrade if your files won't work with the new version since I like the ability to show short movies this way too much ;-)
One further question: Do you have any idea how to get some other than the "generic" movie-thumbnail for the movies? These newsgroups are full of hints (i.e. using ffmpeg), but it seems like they all don't work on a Windows XP-machine.... Maybe you have already written a script that you'd be willing to share....?
Thanks again for the great adaption!

Hi jdog,
I have just sent the zip-file to you. I run it under version 1.3.3 and it's great - just what I wanted. However, I have recently installed 1.3.4 under another server and when you copy the files into the gallery-folder, the program stops working.... That's too bad. Now, I am just a "user" with VERY limited understanding of the code - I would really appreciate it if you decide to adapt the files to the latest version that you would then send the files back to me...
I am also looking for a tool to show thumbs from the movies (instead of the generic picture provided by gallery) - like apparently possible with ffmpeg - however, I am running a win xp-server w/ apache and ffmpeg is only for linux.... Maybe you know a solution?
Have fun with the files!

reefdiver,
Instead of emailing it, can you make a post here and use the new "Attachment" feature to add the file to this thread?
Then everyone can get it.

I have updated the code to work with Gallery 1.3.4.
get it at: gallerymovie.tar.gz
It would be totally cool if someone would check these changes into CVS so that this feature would remain in future releases. I'm not the one to do that (not enough time on my hands to mess with this).

jdog,
can you update the movie files so they will work with RC3? Seems like they don't work any more. I guess a lot of people would appreciate it.
Thanks a buch in advance!

is somebody using this hack with G1.4pl1?
Is there something like a patch around, showing, what to replace/add rather than the whole changed files?
thx

Ditto and bump for the last comment...I'm on 1.4pl2 and would also like to use this feature. I just put about a paragraph of text into a few movie "Description" fields and then found out that they aren't retrievable by any of the users. Anyone care to post the changed code and does it work with 1.4pl2 ?

Is there a copy of this hack/mod that works with the latest version of Gallery? Gallery 1.4-pl2?
If there is a patch file, or even a diff of what to change that would be awesome. :o

as soon as my linux box is back, I'll do the patch of the 1.3.4 version, hopefully it will be possible to apply it to 1.2
If anybody has done this already, don't hesitate to tell it;-)
Cheers,
Nick

Hey everyone!
Sorry it's been a really long time since I've posted anything on the embedded movies mod. I'll get a fix made for the newer version of Gallery out really soon, I just had no clue that anyone wanted it, I haven't been to this site since like July or so.
I'm glad everyone appreciates the work I put into it and I'll gladly update it...in the mean time check out:
-> Pre Alpha Test . Com <-
it's my bands website...I know this has nothing to do with the movies mod, but I really want to get our music known and it would be the best favor you could do for me in return for the updated embedded movies mod.
Thanks and I'll post again soon.

sounds good! I was thinking of integrating all kinds of mods/hacks & stuff into the new 1.4x version. ffmpeg support for first frame of the movie thumb-nail image creation, my print photo approach. And probably more. If anybody would be interested in the modified files, I could zip them to save you a couple of hours;-)
Cheers

Hey, I'm all for something like that.

Yes, I just finished extracting the appropriate changes from 1.3.4 and merging them into 1.4-pl2. You can download a ZIP file including the three files util.php, view_album.php, and view_photo.php, from this link:
http://members.iglou.com/dougq/gal14pl2_embedded_movies.zip
I had also made the change to NOT show the SLIDESHOW command for the topmost albums, a change that was discussed elsewhere. If you don't want the slideshow mod, then remove the comments that are at the beginning of lines 384, 385, 386, and 387 in view_album.php.
No guarantees, YMMV, etc...
Have manifold happiness (N-joy)!

Gotta love the day we do something a new version comes out.
Is there much changed that need to be done for this to would with the new v1.4.1 RC2 they just put out?
Posts: 34
Probably not... just diff the three files against the unaltered ones from 1.4-pl2, then apply those changes to the 1.4.1-rc2 files. That's what I did, diff the unaltered 1.3.4 against the embedded_movies version the link to which was posted earlier... then apply the changes to 1.4-pl2.
Diff is your friend... even M$' pitiful 'fc' will work...

I tried your script you provided and I get:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: getnls() in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/test/gallery/util.php on line 1833
Posts: 34
The only change made to util.php is
Comparing files util_v.php and UTIL.PHP
***** util_v.php
function acceptableMovieList() {
return array('avi', 'mpg', 'mpeg', 'wmv', 'mov', 'swf', 'mp4');
}
***** UTIL.PHP
function acceptableMovieList() {
return array('avi', 'mpg', 'mpeg', 'wmv', 'mov', 'swf', 'mp4', 'ram', 'rm');
}
*****
However, as I mentioned, I'm on a Windows platform. Any edits I make to text source causes the files to gain line terminators al la Windows, i.e. CRLF instead of just LF. If you're running on a *nix platform, or running Apache under Windows, you might need to filter the files so that they are terminated with LF only.
As an alternative, that change isn't really required for the embedded movies; all it does is add RealAudio and RealVideo files to the list of stuff that can be played back. Try using the standard util.php...

The rendering of photo pages changed considerably between 1.4-pl2 and 1.4.1-rc3. I have applied the diffs but in 1.4.1-rc3 they do not perform as advertised, and will require better php kung fu than I have mastered to date.
My efforts remained focused on cookies for caching credentials, so once I get that working, I'll revisit the embedded video feature.

Ok! This wasn't so bad...
My ISP hasn't received my latest payment, so I can't upload it to my storage area. If anyone wants a copy of the "Embedded Movies" modification for Gallery 1.4.1-rc3, then send me an e-mail message (my address is not obscured) and include [GALLERY] in the subject line so that the SPAM filter doesn't shred your message into little itty bits quantum bitlings...
No guarantees, warrantees, promises, etc. I doubt this will cause your server to explode, but hey, WHO KNOWS!??
One caveat... on the video playback page, the top line of the top navigation bar was not appearing... even though I had ensured that the appropriate html wrapper was trying to do the job. It stumped me, so I tossed a table back into the view_photo.php script, which *might* break the skinning feature for someone... but it didn't break it here, skinning seems to work fine. It will, however, possibly not work right with some variation in the appearance options.
As before, changes were confined to 3 files: util.php (only change here was to expand the list of playable video vile types, and that change appears to be slated for 1.4.2); view_album.php, and view_photo.php.
Additionally, I created an html wrapper for the embedded movies, that's a simply clone of the standard default inline wrapper, but it forces the image to be centered horizontally on the page.
Whoopie! Now I can go back to collecting dead relatives for a while...
;)

can you send the file. Thanks

As I am getting requests, I should mention that my attentions are focused away from Gallery at the moment, and I haven't had time to integrate the embedded movies patch into 1.4.1-rc4, the final 1.4.1 release.
Perhaps I'll be able to do so over the Christmas Holiday break...

Thanks in advance!

me too!! has anyone adapted to 1.4.1?

I have successfully retrofitted BeanyBoy's modifications into gallery 1.4.1 final if anyone is interested.
I have the 3 PHP files and instructions compressed into a 45k .rar file. If someone can give me an FTP or Web server where I can legally post it, I will put it out there and provide the link back here. Just PM me with the upload info.
Thanks!
