It's standard practice to post both release notes and the release dates on the website of a software project.
It can be like firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-10-24.html
or like the default template for every project on Sourceforge.

Gallery only puts the release notes in the actual zipped download, but the release date is not posted anywhere.

It would be great if Gallery would fix this. When we check the main gallery site to see if there has been an update, we want to know what got updated and when did this update happen! :)

Thanks,

Ed

this was the last major release:
http://gallery.menalto.com/gallery_2.1_released

as you see, there's a date in the story and there's a link "what's new" in the story as well. at the of this writing, the links don't work (thanks sf.net), i guess that will soon work again.

checking if there has been an update is easy as well. the latest version is always in the upper right corner as block of http://gallery.menalto.com. .

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gallery/ will show dates for all versions and packages (G1, G2 lang packs & GR etc).
We have a news story on all releases.

i guess they are both saying, the info is there if you know where to look. did these answer your question? do you think this info should be more visible, like an index of past releases or something?

Thanks for the links y'all.

Here's the use case:
I usually go to the home page and will click on the link in the top right corner for the latest release. That page has nothing about what is in the release.
I think that page should have the release date and notes on it. (or at least a prominent link to the release notes)

It's frustrating to be on that page, sifting through all the data on it, and none of it tells me what's in the new release or when it came out.
That would probably improve the experience for a lot of us.

I added links to the release announcements for each 2.1.x at the top. We'd like to cleanup the download page a bit, but this will do for now. Thanks for the feedback.
