Gregory Cowley Studios seeks professional PHP/MySQL developer for contract work on Ecommerce site.

We are looking for a PHP expert to help with the development of an image library site that is currently based on a patchwork of OsCommerce, Gallery, and custom code. The site needs to be extended to use a modular ‘plug-in’ system of adding new features (much like the Gallery). These new features will also need to be developed and added to the site.

Currently Gallery is only a back end component to the site. Many hours went into developing the custom front in before I really dealved into the features of Gallery. I don't want to lose this time spent and would like to figure out the best way to merge everything together.

The short-term goals are to tackle a list of new functional requirements and to iron out many of the bugs in the current structure. The long-term goals will be to completely replace the current structure with a more sound custom modular system.

The perfect person for this job will be comfortable with reverse engineering existing code. They will need to work quickly and not require a long learning period to get up to speed. And they will have more than enough experience in this field to be able to propose more efficient solutions than have currently been considered.

Must have:
• Experience with Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/).
• Some familiarity with OsCommerce (http://www.oscommerce.com/).
• Ability to design and develop web applications using PHP.
• Ability to design and develop modular plug-in systems using objects classes.
• Knowledge of all security concerns and ability to add fail safe protection mechanisms.
• Ability to design and development efficient and possibly innovative search systems for finding products.
• Experience with the ‘Smarty’ templating system.

I'm not interested in the offer, this is just FYI.

What about using G2's integration with zencart? I gather zencart is a better codebase and more actively developed than oscommerce. and there's already a g2 integration for it.
