how to hide the JPG's in apache

hi there

I realise this is an apache issue ... if i have a jpeg file that belongs to a album which is visible only to those "loggedin" or to a certain account, how can i prevent the jpg file itself being accessed? ie ... someone just appends .jpg to the end of the file name and they can get in irrespectively of whether theyre logged into gallery.
