Hi,

I am just interested in hearing about how the implementation of virtual albums, or Flickr style tags as they have been called, are progressing? I am waiting for doing a large job in restructuring my Gallery, and really look forward to this feature. I am thinking about combining Gallery 2.3 (probably) then with WordPress to make a more dynamic site, as I really fell the need of a CMS and a more structured photo gallery.

Thanks guys ! /

How about doing the same with 2.2? ;)
I recommend you to grab a nigthly snapshot and start playing with it (look for 'dynamic albums', tag clouds etc, it's there ;)

Hi again,

nightly snapshot? - what's that? You mean it is made as some sort of plugin for 2.2? That is of course interesting, but where do I find it?
Is there a bulk-watermarking-plugin ready as well?

Anyway, if this will be incorporated into ver 2.3 and 2.3 will ship before Christmas I might just as well wait???

please click on "downloads" at the top of this page. then in the g2 section look for nightly snapshots.

this keywords and dynamic album modules are in g2.2 and g2.2 will be released before xmas.

there's no plan for g2.3 yet but there will certainly be such a version sometime next year. but that has nothing to do with this topic.

Thanks Valiant, good to hear, then I will look for the 2.2 version of course, don't know why I talked about the 2.3.

Anyway, if I install a nightly snapshot of the 2.2 version and play with it, can I upgrade that simply by a upgrade program? So far I have been upgrading to new G2 versions by overwriting all files, and that is a process I did not like very much. But I wonder if I might have missed that there will be easy upgrade script available for any coming G2 version from now on?

upgrading from or to a nightly snapshot is just like upgrading from / to an official release.

but versions other than official releases have not been as thoroughly tested and have not gone under a security audit.
being very close to a next release, the current nightly snapshot is probably not a bad version.

Hi!

Is there also some sort of plugin, which will allow the combination of keywords to actually narrow the search and get fewer hits? For example, given the tags on flickr I'd like to combine the tags Theatre, Southwark AND London and maybe only get one hit -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/toxophilite/239193208/. Can something like this be done with g2.2?

And, uhm, if this cannot be done with Gallery 2.2, does anyone know of a Image Gallery software which DOES support such a feature? :)

Thanks,
Alexander

i guess you're looking for "boolean search".
g2.2 is coming really soon, so no, we won't add that feature for g2.2.

if you look in the customization forum, you might find a hack to get boolean search / advanced search.

Hi!

Well, yes, I guess I'm looking for boolean search. However, I don't want to type the keywords and search for it, but I'd rather klick on the first keyword and then everything should behave the way it is now. Next, I'd like to click on the 2nd keyword and it should be used as well, to, yes, you're right ;), AND it to the first keyword.

So, yes, I'm really looking for boolean search.

Thanks for clarifying that this won't make it into g2.2.

When is g2.3 due? ;)

Just kidding,
Alexander

Will it be possible to search within a dynamic album?

there's no album-restriction / filtering when it comes to search in g2.

I am very happy with the new additions of virtual albums, and "keyword albums"!

Is there any way though to have these albums show up as real albums? I.e. see them as a folder in the gallery root which is clickable but has no real contence other than the query for the keyword album and such.

That is too bad. It would be nice to be able to limit searches to a dynamic album.

It's exciting to see Valiant's claims about the new version release being imminent -- any updates, Valiant or others?

Thanks.

we're getting slowly there, but we're still a month away from g2.2, at least.

I would love to see an update about the status of 2.2 on the main page... I've been checking the main page for months now, and I'd actually thought that development must have stopped because there's been no new info on Gallery2 in ages. In particular, I'd like to hear what new features & performance to expect, and when it might be released. It doesn't have to be solid info, just an update on the main page.

Hi,

I see that there is now not much left in the release blockers list? Is there any chance for a Gallery 2.2 Christmas Gift perhaps - anyone able to tell?

Probably, we release the first release candidate of G2.2 shortly after xmas.
There will also be a 2nd release candidate as you see there are quite some rc-2 blockers and we need feedback from an external security auditor.
And then after the 2nd release candidate, we can finally release G2.2. Once RC-1 has been released, it probably takes about a month to release the final release.

This may sound like a slow process, but a rushed release doesn't help anyone.
