.jpg upload: invalid image error message

Hello!

Everytime I want to upload a .jpg file I get the following error message:
Processing status...
- Adding 06200066.jpg
Error: Invalid image: 06200066_G.jpg!

But uploading a small .gif file works.
Could this be a wrong path in config.php?

My web space is on Linux. PHP Version 4.2.2. Apache Version 1.3.26 (Unix).

I apreshiate any help.
