Hi
Is it possible to run the Gallery appliance under VMware ESX 3.0, and if so - how is it done?

At first, I was under the impression it was possible.

But I have since learned that ESX requires *SCSI* drives? Is that right? Anyway, the current image uses IDE. I've spoken with some of the rPath people and they learned this about 2 days before I did and the person I talked to believed someone was working on resolving the issue.

Sounds nice.. Will the "new" appliance be available from this website?

I haven't tried yet, I will tomorrow at work though. I could sucessfully import an appliance and convert it to an ESX virtual machine by using the VMimporter, but we might run into problems with IDE vs SCSI (LSI or BusLogic).

I will probably wrap up a new release when rPath include the vmware-tools *and* solves the scsi vs. ide issue.

Yeah, that would make a lot of sense to do. :)

I was not able to convert the existing image with VMimporter, it just fails right after it starts. Not sure if the problem is ide vs scsi, or something entirely different.

Then we will have to wait, for the new release from rPath?

We'll have to wait and see, the most pressing issue is probably the IDE vs SCSI one, since converting the existing appliance to VMWare Workstation format worked without problems.
