Gallery version (not just "2"): (Can't log in, can't find in MySQL tables)
PHP version (e.g. 4.3.11): 5.1.2
PHPInfo Link (see FAQ): http://gallery.inlesserterms.net/phpinfo.php
Webserver (e.g. Apache 1.3.33): IIS 6
Database (e.g. MySql 4.0.11): 5.0.18-nt-max
Activated toolkits (e.g. NetPbm, GD): All
Operating system (e.g. Linux): Windows Server 2003
Browser (e.g. Firefox 1.0): Firefox 1.5.0.6

I have changed NOTHING since my successful installation -- Gallery 2 has been working fine for weeks.

I try to log in, and I continue to get this error when logging in:

    Security Violation

    The action you attempted is not permitted.

A session is never instantiated.

So I figured I'd make use of the "Forgot Password" feature, and that's when I noticed the captcha image has no characters in it (same as in the registration page). So I now I have two problems to fix.

I'm not concerned with the captcha problem at the moment -- I just want to know where I should look to resolve the stupid error when logging in.

Aha! It seems Firefox 1.5.0.6 doesn't handle sessions correctly, I think. When I view Gallery using Internet Explorer, I can log in without the annoying error, and the captcha shows the number as it's supposed to.

By the way, since I can now log in, here's the correct information:

Gallery version = 2.1.1 core 1.1.0.1
PHP version = 5.1.2 isapi
Webserver = Microsoft-IIS/6.0
Database = mysqlt 5.0.18-nt-max, lock.system=database
Toolkits = Exif, Thumbnail, Gd, Dcraw, ImageMagick, ArchiveUpload, NetPBM, Ffmpeg
Acceleration = none, none
Operating system = Windows NT SYDNEY 5.2 build 3790
Default theme = matrix
Locale = en_US
Browser = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1)

I cleared the Cache and the Cookies in Firefox 1.5.0.6 and I was then able to log in to Gallery. But when I logged out so I could visit the Registration page to make sure the captcha was rendering correctly, I discovered it was not. When I tried to log in again, I was right back to where I started with the initial topic.

So, it appears Gallery is doing something to the sessions/cookies that Firefox cannot handle. Who's at fault -- Firefox or GallerY? I don't have any clue.

Just an update in the interest of thoroughness: I'm able to use Gallery in Firefox (same version) again. I am quite miffed as to what the problem was/is...

The same thing's been happening to me off and on since G2. No idea when it happens.

Hi everybody

I hope I'm not violeting any etiquette when I dredge up this old post from long ago. I've googled for the problem I faced, and this is the only one matching my situation.

I've gallery2 installed. The details don't seem to matter in this case. The problems are:
(a) when I use Firefox 2.0.0.6 to login to my gallery2 site, it gives the security violation message "The action you attempted is not permitted.".
(b) concurrent with this problem is that clicking on the register link using that same Firefox results in a captcha with no numbers, just a pixelated greyish-black patch.

The scenarios:
1. When using IE and Opera, logging in is fine, captcha displays correctly.
2. When using the same Firefox and attempting to register at http://gallery.inlesserterms.net/, the captcha displays correctly (did not actually register there).
3. When using the same Firefox version from another computer to access my own gallery2 site, logging in is fine, captcha displays correctly.

Point 1 shows that there is probably nothing wrong with the installation.

Point 2 shows that the Firefox on my computer can display gallery2's captcha correctly (and by implication, should be able to log in to gallery2, too, since the problems (a) and (b) seem to manifest themselves concurrently when they do appear), which kinda implies that there's nothing wrong with the

Point 3 shows that it really is possible to log in to my gallery2 site using Firefox, and should confirm that there is nothing wrong with the installation.

So, it appears that there really should be no problems logging on to my gallery 2 site using Firefox on my computer, but it just won't!

Does anyone else have an experience like this? Any ideas? Am totally stumped as to what the issue may be.

@elendil:
as you said, this thread might be obsolete.

- please post your system information when posting in the support forums.

- if you're not using the latest stable version of gallery, please upgrade.
not sure if related things have been addressed since g2.2 as well (in that case, upgrading to the current nightly snapshot might help).

- please clear your browser cookies before trying again.

- please open new forum topic to discuss your specific case.
