I hope this is the right forum for this question . . .

My hosting provider is terrible so I want to move my whole gallery to a new server. I've checked the admin panel on the Gallery and can't find and easy "export" button.

Is there any easy way to export the whole gallery, images and folders, to a file for uploading? And then an easy way to upload them all to the new Gallery?

hello Krista,

it's a little more involved but http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:FAQ#How_can_I_move_my_gallery_installation_from_one_server_to_another.3F should get you started.

do report back here on your progress.

Thanks, but wow. I read that thread, and the thread on backing up your installation and it seems WAY too complicated to even attempt. I would be more inclined to just save all my photos and start fresh than to go through all of that.

Is that seriously the easiest way to export the photos?

Isn't there a way I could just ftp all the photos off my server? I tried looking under the gallery folder, but can't seem to find a folder where the images are stored.

I'm currently hosting with shieldhost.com (They suck. That's why I'm moving) and I'm planning to go to canaca.com

as you know already by now, exporting Gallery is a multi-step process. are you familiar with SSH and/or FTP? I'm asking because both providers offer SSH access (except for Canaca's cheapest package), so that's something that you can work with.

how many images are currently in your Gallery 2 site? when you installed it, did you it manually (via FTP)? or through a web-based control panel (fantastico)?
also, it will help if you can locate the path to your "g2data" directory" using an FTP client or grabbing the /path/to/gallery2/config.php file
