hi there I have 20 main albums on my gallery, I want to move my most recent to position 1, however no matter what I try, I can not move it. I can move SOME albums around, more often than not it doesnt move them to the correct position though and still cant get it moved. http://gallery.darb.net/ the very bottom one "hotham 2002" I want to be up just above "NZ 2002" any ideas? brad. |

So if you tried to move that album to position 1 right now, what would happen? And does it do the same thing consistently? We need a lot more information in order to figure out what's going wrong. Experiment with it and catalog the behaviour in detail and I'll look into it.

If i try to move "hotham2002" to position 1, it simply doesnt move. It stays where it is.
I can give you admin access if you would desire. The behaviour is weird, most of the time it simply wont move, but on occasion it will just stuff the entire order up .. however that is rare.
Brad.

What happens if you try to move it to position 2, or some other position?

I wil consider that Bharat, at present my visa card is in the mail (no joke, I left it at a ski lodge on the weekend, its being mailed back to me)
The album in mention doesnt budge at all, occasionally it budges the one BELOW it, to another position (but not the position its instructed to move to)
let me get back to you.
Love the software, its fantastic.

BPD / Bharat-
I had some similar troubles with my Gallery, following an upgrade to 1.3.1. Further confusing the matters was a "close-on-it's-heels" (not QUITE simultaneous) upgrade to PostNuke 0.7.2.1, which has me completely hosed. The two COULD be related - as I'm not perfectly clear on the integration betwen the two packages, but...
I did have some issues when creating new galleries (they appeared in STRANGE places - under other galleries they shouldn't have) and disrupted navigation structure. In the end, I just restored all of /albums from an earlier backup, and re-created the things that had changed since then - and now all seems to be working okay.
The problems were odd, and hard to characterize. I would attempt to move a photo, or entire album, and it would not have the desired effect - either it wouldn't move, or would move someplace unexpected.
Sorry I'm not much help,
Billy

i fixed this by moving all my album directories out of my "photos" directory. and then moving them back in one by one in order ... works perfectly apart from stuffing up one album that became invisible for some reason, i just reconfigured it anyway ....

I just installed this script a couple of days ago and seem to be having the same problem now that I'm moving all my photo's in there. Ex - I'll try to move an album to position 2 and it will end up at 5, it won't move at all, or it will move and cause multiple other albums to be moved to different places. Any idea's how to fix this??

I don't have a clue as to why this is happening. I haven't been able to reproduce it locally and haven't gotten access to a box where it's happening so that I can debug it.

I'll be glad to donate a little money for this script. It's definitely worth $20 or more. I'll have to wait a day or two though so I can deposit some money in my account.
I'm pretty sure I figured out why mine was acting up. At first I had my gallery temporary folder inside my photography folder (the folder I made to store the albums in). I was getting the warning message about having an extra folder in that directory whenever I logged in, but couldn't figure out how to move it until I found the cleanup.php script. I'm guessing that's what was causing the probelm because it seems to be working fine now. I just wish I had figured this out sooner because it was a major hastle to get all my photography in order.
The way I had to get everything in order was kinda strange... I would create a new album and upload my files to it. It would appear as the very last album listed. Then once I created another new album, it would move the previous one I created to the top. I'd move that one to the last position listed and it would move it to one position above the album I just created, actually putting it where it was in the first place. I would have to go through the same process with each new album I created, but it did atleast work to get everything listed.
Now that I have the temp folder moved, I tried creating a new album and now it places it at the top of the list instead of the bottom. I can also move the albums around without a problem now. Hopefully this will help someone else out as well.

Doh! I never thought about that, but yeah I can see how it will cause Gallery some confusion if you put the temp directory into the albums directory. I guess that's one more thing I should check for in the config wizard. Thanks for following up with the explanation!

Putting your own files in the albums directory is verboten (forbidden)! Gallery will be righteously indignant about it and may do very bad things to you if you mess with its data files. You've been warned
