"No route to host" on CVS install

Trying to do the CVS install through SSH as per the Gallery 2 documentation, but I just keep getting "Failed: No route to host". Any ideas? I am totally new to messing with SSH as I've always used FTP before to do everything on my host. Surprisingly, I did a search here and found nothing!
