Default sort order different from top level?

I was wondering if there's any way to set a site-wide default sort order that isn't tied to the top level album. See, I like individual albums to have their pictures sorted by creation date, ascending. But I want my top level album to show newer albums first, so I give it a sort order of creation date, descending.

However, this sort order becomes the default. And I don't want future albums I create to take on this sort order by default. Is there any way to set the sort order for the top-level album without making this setting trickle down to all the sub albums?
