Hi,

I am about to create a site for travel routes using gallery 2 and the Google Maps module.

I want to offer other services such as news, a forum, blogs (perhaps even a home page), allowing users to store lists and files, etc.

I would like each user to be able to set up several galleries/maps.

Which of the portals (Drupal, Postnuke) would you suggest that I use?

Many thanks in advance for any pointers,

Paul

Hello and welcome !

The google Map module is far from bullet proof at this point and the embedded mode is what's giving me the most grief. I'm not quite sure what is causing all the trouble (beside bad coding I mean) but there is quite a bit or weird happenings :-)

If you choose to use a CMS. I know it works with minor tweaking with drupal and jombla and to be honest those are great CMS to begin with.

As for features you are talking about directly linked to the google map module. not all is there just yet.

you'll probably have to make a couple request to implement additional stuff.

Other than that I think you'd be happy with the work already done in gallery2, it's just great !

I have gone through several cms's in the past few months, most of which center on gallery and the maps:)

In the end I ended up not embedding gallery/maps directly into a cms because it became a headache and as both gallery/maps and cms's are always coming up with new features it's actually harder as time goes by. With that said I think they way to go is to not embed but to leave the integration open. Thats means you integrate the users/permisions and linking but... leave the admin stuff to the respective app, like admin gallery with gallery not through joomla/postnuke/whatever.

Several cms's integrate well with gallery it depends what you want or how much work you want to do, something like drupal is prob more reliable and feature rich but it has a steep learning curve, while wordpress is pretty easy. Pick something that has a large gallery user base, i'd suggest maybe joomla/mambo as it already has a gallery/community builder that works (multiple blogs, profiles, gallery2 integrated, etc). Most every cms has forum/news/file storage and stuff like that so pick one thats works well with gallery. Id narrow it down to wordpress, joomla, postnuke and drupal for main cms and probably phpbb for the forum.
Multiple maps you'll have to ask google:)
Sorry for the long post I spent a lot of time figuring this out. If you have any more specific questions I can probably narrow your options down even more, good luck.

Thanks for your help guys. Looks like I'll take the Joomla route. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
