some gallery 2.x questions

Hi,

I'm researching several open source photo gallery solutions for our clients, and I have a few questions regarding the progress of Gallery 2.x. I realize that there is no fixed milestone for even an alpha or beta release, but based on the current rate of development, are we talking a few weeks, a month or two, half a year to a year, until a stable release? Basically I would like to get a feel for how things are going.

In the meantime, we will probably go with Gallery 1.x just so we can have something for our clients. When gallery 2 is finally released, will there be any scripts (or plans for such) to migrate Gallery 1 over to Gallery 2?

I think we're talking a month or two until alpha. But since my wife is due with our second baby at the end of April, things may slow down significantly at that point....
