I've uploaded the new module, when I go to the modules page and click upgrade I get the following error;

I notice it mentions imagemagick which I don't (think) I have installed.

you need login, go to Site Admin, and look under the Graphics toolkits header. If you do not see Imagemagick, you need to get it installed. Click upon the Modules header and see if you can install/enable it.

yeap, if you do not wish to use ImageMagick at all, you would need to comment line 303 in the file "module.inc" of the map module and you should be good to go ;)
