Well,

Long time no talk. I have been trying the new google API v2 today and made the module work !

BUT:
- GxMagnifier refuses to function. I (or someone else) need to contact the author or try to look into the code to make it work.
- RegisterKeyHandler seems to have a bug and doesn't work with 2.36 (no more keyboard control for the map)
- Tooltips do not show up (a minor change to the code make them work again)
- The Show/Hide feature is broken as well (but should be reparable)

All that to say it seems pretty minor and hopefully if I overcome those small challenges will be releasing a module that will support v2 of the API.

For the time being, the choice between v1 & v2 can be made via the AdminPanel. v1 works like before and v2 basically disable GxMagnifer (until solved), remove registerKeyHandlers (until the bug is resolved) and finally change the Show/Hide feature so it still works :D

When this is done we will have a brand new module that works in google API V2....

Termite,
When I noticed that 2.3.6 made a map semi-compatible (semi-functional)
with v1, I tried making the Map Theme work with it (the theme is all
my pea brain could possibly deal with :-)). By the time I managed to
get it to work, the pea was battered, dented and overcooked. I only
did this as an exercise of curiosity and don't have an intention in
putting it out there. I did try the exact same code to see if it
would work with the API just prior to 2.3.6 (2.3.5a?) and found it
would not work. I too had noticed the keyboard handler missing.
Hopefully the compatibility features of 2.3.6 -will- be kept in
future versions.

I say all of the above to lead up to... Your achievement is commendable
and no small effort. I can appreciate the amount of time and work it
must take to get something as complex as the Map Module to work
under V2 (even with the compatibility features).

Three cheers for The Termite.

Also in the "same" subject, it seems that Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 finally works correctly with google maps. You can upgrade in confidence .... sort of.

:):):):):)
