[Updates Module] cannot activate because....

Hi All, I thought I would try the updates module, being a complete novice with this I installed the directory updates into the modules directory which I hope is the right place, logged in and get the message for the module

Incompatible module!
Core API Required: 7.0 (available: 6.8)
Module API Required: 3.0 (available: 2.0)

Updates v.2.6

Gallery version = 2.0.2 core 1.0.0.2
PHP version = 4.3.11 apache2handler
Webserver = Apache/2.0.54 (Win32) PHP/4.3.11
Database = mysql 4.1.12a-nt
Toolkits = Exif, ImageMagick, NetPBM, SquareThumb, Thumbnail
Operating system = Windows NT STEVE 5.1 build 2600
Browser = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050919 Firefox/1.0.7

that's right. that version is incompatible with 2.0.x
search further back in the Updates topic for a 2.0.x compatible version, but it doesn't have some of the changes/fixes I made.
