Suggestion: Rename Album

Since installing Gallery 1.5.1, I've had many users emailing me asking why, when they select "Rename Album" from the album actions menu, it doesn't change the title of the album. Because these users are not tech-savvy they instantly correlate "rename album" to changing the album title, instead of what the action does, which is to change the URL. The result being that we have a ton of albums with unique URLs and an equal number with "Untitled" as the title. I suggest replacing the "Rename Album" so that it changes the title of the album instead of the URL, and moving the URL change option into the Properties sub-dialog. This will simplify the process for many users, and avoid the headache of having to try to teach users a more complex procedure for what is a common-use option, or manually changing the titles of albums for users who don't want to learn for themselves. A slightly more complex option would be to remove Rename Album all together, and simply have the URL be made by removing any improper characters from the Album Title to create the URL. -Patrick |
