I just spent the weekend rebuilding my web server and I had some trouble moving my old gallery install (v 1.3) because of a few incompaibilities with newer libraries and tools, so I bit the bullet and upgraded.

All I can say is WOW! The install and album import went without a hitch and I love the new admin interface.
