PG-equipment.tpl-html help?

I understand I'm dealing with php here, so I don't know how much that changes things. I created my own equipment.tpl file by starting with tables in html. It previews fine as html under both IE and Firefox, but when I upload it as the .tpl to my site and hover over the link, it comes up with lots of empty blank space between each of my tables. If it matters, I used Dreamweaver to create layers that I then converted into tables. I can't see what html code is producing the empty spaces. I thought it might be cell padding, but as I said it displays fine with both both browsers locally in html. Any ideas?
