I just inherited an incredible lot of family pictures from my grandmother who raised me. my intention is to make them ALL available online, and allow all my family editting privilidges, so they can tell whos who in the pictures, when they were taken, and where and so forth. i only know maybe half of the people in the pics, so this will allow everyone to help. it should be searchable by name and place and date and so forth, maybe via tags or something.

is this possible with gallery? how difficult is it?

if this isnt possible with gallery, does anyone know a program that it can be done with? i dont mind spending lots of money, but i dont want to buy a new license every year...

each g2 item has a name, title, summary, description, keywords, origination date, ....
additionally, g2 has customfields. so you can add a field for each item for "people" , "place", ...
customfields are also searchable.

you can't yet search by date.

so if i searched by say "steven rushing" (my name) i would get all the pictures with my name in the name field, or something like that?

yeah

g2 doesn't yet have fulltext search and it doesn't have boolean search, but this should work.
