Private Album is not about username/password. I think it's about password only, I come as an anonymous user on gallery server and I want to view password protected album. So system asks me for password, some string I got from album owner via e-mail by example and if the string is right, lets me in. Is it hard for you Guys to do it? Why so complicated permissions system exists in this very nice application as Gallery is? Is it hard to add a column to the albums table which can hold password assigned from album owner and verify anonymous user access to the album? I think this software is made for administrators and power users, working in closed group for some reason which have some technical skills and not for ordinary people (a woman wants create album and post photos of her family by example/ Oh my! Album Name ... album name on your hardisk ... who cares!). Sorry.

Sample:

Translation:
To access this album you should insert password.
Password gives you an album owner.

password protected albums and private albums are two different things. the former is available as additional module to g2, the latter is done with user permissions.

http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:UserContributions#Modules -> album password
