Hello!

I have several problems with translations:
1. I am a dumbuser :)
2. I rent webspace from a server and do not have direct access to it, just ftp

So, please bare with me when I try to explain what went wrong... :)

What I have, is a gallery at http://www.plika.com/gallery2/
FTP-program (Smart FTP) and poEdit (for editing po-files).

Since I was unable to create new (Estonian - this is my native language) language files, I translated some others (Finnish). I did that by downloading the file (via FTP), translating it (using poEdit) and then, uploading it back to the directory.

Then, I went and chose Finnish as the language for the gallery as well as my account language... but... nothing changed. Eventhough the language files are translated (most, at least), everything is still either in Finnish or in English.

One of the problems is, that not all po-directories had finnish files in them, so that might be a reason. So, here are the questions:

1. Is it possible to manipulate with language the way I did? Just translating other language files?
2. How can I get the system to display new language? Do I need to update something, refresh something or... how can I get the gallery to display updated phrases?

I attached one of the translated files - that was in Finnish and now is in Estonian - but I do not know if that will be helpful or not...

So, please, could someone help enthusiastic, but really dumb user?

MANY thanks in advance!

Krissu

/Note to administrators: Unfortunately, I have posted my problem to customization in G2 forum, so feel free to remove it from there/

after changing the .po files, you have to generate the .mo files from the .po files.
without shell access, you can't do that. see the instructions on codex.gallery2.org -> translations

you can install g2 on your own computer at home (best: linux, cygwin = linux emulation for windows is also fine) and do the work there and finally upload the locale dirs.
