I downloaded the albums directory from g2data, edited a lot of the photos there, and the reuploaded the whole albums directory to g2data so now how can I get the new photos into the galleries? I've tried the maintenance option to Build all thumbnails/resizes, but this just checks the images, it's not actually rebuilding anything, how do I force it to rebuild everything whether it wants to or not? |

you shouldn't do that...
however, you need to manually write a script that iterates over all data items and force a refresh.
if you removed / added files / removed / moved dirs in the albums directory, you just screwed up your G2 installation. i hope you just resized / manipulated the images... then a refresh would work.
try it with the search function. i've sketched the "refresh" code in a post in spring/early summer 2005 somewhere in the forums.

I didn't mess with the directory structure, I just had to crop some of the images a little because they hadn't been scanned properly originally, and this seemed like by far the easiest way to go through hundreds of photos
unfortunately I don't write code so I don't think I can do this, I guess I'll just have to re add the photos to the galleries using the add items from URL function

add items -> from local server is the best method in this case.
just move the contents of your albums directory to a folder outside of g2data, then reinstall your g2 (empty, ..).
then use add item from local server to add all albums at once.

really? will it recreate all the albums and sub albums from the directories in the upload folder? I spent a lot of time creating a pretty complex structure of sub-galleries, so I can't loose that...

Yes, it will work. I don't know what you'd loose since by default G2 creates a copy from your upload folder. So you won't be loosing anything.

the structure is preserved, you'll lose comments, users, groups, customfields, ... just everything that you manually changed after adding images / albums. all new album / photo names will default to the folder/file names.
btw: this "loose" vs "lose" typo is funny, so many people write loose
