Admin approval of public uploads

We are going to use Gallery 2 to create a user driven source of
non-copyrighted pictures for use in public schools classroom projects.

We want teacher to be able to register and upload pictures but before
they are "available" via the gallery to others, we want to be able
to require admin (that me) approval. Is there a way to do that?

there's no approval module for g2 yet.

you could create such a module yourself.
a not so nice workaround right now is to allow uploading into a module that isn't viewable by the public and the admin would then have to manually move the items to a public album.
