Hi there- There's a lot of discussion about adding Flickr style tags to Gallery-- it's the #2 feature request on http://gallery.menalto.com/sfvote - and I think it's the future of online galleries. Lots of folks seem to have hacked around on this, but I've yet to see it in play. Because I want this, I'm willing to commission a programmer to do it. Potentially, I could do it as a module and give something back to the fine folks of the gallery community. Please send me your hourly rate, a quick description of your experience with Gallery (and PHP in general). Drupal expertise would be a plus. No design skills are required. My email addy is webwright AT gmail DOTT com. Alternatively, if anyone has a system like this working, I'd be interested in seeing it! Thanks mucho, |

Have you received any applications so far?
I'm as well in need of such a module and I would have started writing it if I had some javascript skills or more time.
Unfortunately I have none of both

this is one great example of flickr tagging:

Just something I want to get straight in my head here; are you talking about tags (labels that describe the photo, ie, tags in the del.icio.us or gmail way) or are you referring to the notes (the active parts of the picture, ie: the handle etc) as the tag?
I've always thought of a tag as being "home cool fridge" etc, but I could be wrong!

You're absolutely right with what you're thinking of. What I meant, though, is a combination of both. The tags as description of the image and some more or less fancy image manipulation, that puts the tags directly on the image, at a specifiable location.

A project I've been using with some success is the Freetag project, found at http://getluky.net/freetag/ , for the "home cool fridge" piece. It creates a little "bolt-on" tag table, is OO, and seems to be extensible. Perhaps you should contact him.

FYI:
termite has developed a great tags module for G2.2.
you can get it via site admin -> plugins -> get more plugins, from the community repository.
