Login Problems (cookies)

A user was having login issues with my G2 install, and after investigation I learned how GallerySession regenerates cookies once you log in, etc. Turns out that the problem was related to an old anonymous session cookie that wouldn't go away. I had her delete any gallery cookies (there were 2), and then she was able to log in once more.

Did some searching on the forums, and found cookie/login issues from months back, but all those were in beta and looked to have been thought resolved. They were related to having multiple cookies, though, and that's probably what caused the login failure here, too.

My question is: how could this have happened? How can I make sure it doesn't happen again?

Possibly Relevant Details I can think of:
The user uses PublishXP to post pictures.
The user browses with Internet Explorer. (sigh)
I switched from G2 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 ... not sure how this relates to her problem on the timeline, though.
The directory path did not change.
It's possible to access my website with or without the 'www'.

that's described in your README.html -> known issues.

it doesn't happen anymore. you just have to clear cookies from beta 3 or earlier.

By "old" I didn't mean beta 3 or earlier. I only started using Gallery after 2.0 was released.

So either the problem is still there, or it's a different problem.

It could've been her browser, or just a corrupt cookie on her end. Is this reproducible?

I'll more or less have to wait and see how reproducible this is, and I'll be sure to post here if it does happen. I couldn't get it to happen, but then, I was running IE under WINE, so it wasn't exactly a controlled experiment. :)

Alright, it happened again. I couldn't tell you what was going on when it happened, though, since it doesn't happen to me. My best guess would be something like running the PublishXP module while browsing the website ... guess I'll have to find a Windows XP install and try to reproduce it myself.
