auto creation of PDF thumbnails. Can't use ghostscript. Any other options?

I can't install ghostscript because no ssh or telnet. As you know ghostscript is needed to work with Imagemgik to auto create PDF thumbnails.

I am using Gallery 2.0 installed on Joomla 1.0 on a linux apache webserber.

My host company lunarpages.com does not allow ssh or telnet. So I cannot install my own version of Imagemagik with the required ghostscript because there is no way of doing this via ftp (at least that is my current understanding).

I was wondering if there is any other work around to autocreate thumbnails for PDF files? Can I NetPBM? If yes how would I configure it? Any other options?
