performance problems

Since I have use a random photoblock on the frontpage of my nuke site the performance of the gallery started to degrade.
Now I've removed the random block but the performance is still slow. Gallery at first needs to 'think' for about 2 to 20 seconds before my images start to load. After those seconds the performance is normal. I can't figure out my problem, hope someone can help me.

Paul,

1. what connection type do you have ?

2. What is the Frequency you have setup for the refresh of the module ?
