Hello you lot, I was using gallery 1.4.x for quite some time with about 4 languages for the users to choose from (eng, deutch,Jap,español). I upgraded to 1.5.1-RC3 and got the language packs from this excellent site http://jems.de/archive/

All installed easily and well with only 1 warning in setup...
"Dates in 4 languages may not be formatted properly, because the corresponding locales are missing. You may need to select manually the date formats for these"

Which is fine as I had that before also when the language packs worked. Anyway, for some reason no matter which lang is selected to view gallery only my default en_GB is used. newlang= etc paramaters passed on correctly in php but everything just stays in Eng.

I´ve tried various different lang packs but no luck. Could someone please point me in the right direction on how to go about diagnosing this problem.

Any help most appreciated.

Regards
Yas

Hello Yes,

So your Gallery 1.4.x was working find with different languages, but 1.5.x doesnt ?

The warning messages says that you need so called "System locales", in some cases you can use a different locale. e.g. use english locale for spanish. I called this locale alias.
Do you have the possibilitity to do this in Step2 in the lang tab ?

Hi Jens,
Step 2 shows the following...(see below). The drop-down menues only allow 2 options "System locale" or
"日本語 EUC-JP" There isn't anything else I can select or do. By the way are you suggesting I have to creat aliases for these locales on my system? (slackware)

Thanks for your help
Yas

You dont have to create the alias on your System, you have to install the corresponding system locales.

Hi, I have all locales present in my <hostname>:/usr/share/locale# folder. So why isn´t gallery seeing/using them?

Thanks.

Ah,

okay. This is good.
So what gallery should do is to give you the alias options in Step2.
Then e.g. for german gallery wants de_DE, which is not installed, but "german". So this would be the alias for de_DE and _should_ work then.

Hi,
you say that gallery should give me the alias options in step 2 but like I said i only have the option to choose system locale or Eu_JP.

Many thanks
