Configuration Wizard stalls after Step 2

The installation is smooth up until the end of Step 2 of the Gallery Configuration Wizard. When I click the "Next Step -->" button, both Safari and Firefox stall until a page loading timeout finally occurs (i.e. I never get to see Step 3 of the process). I've fiddled with permissions and made sure that the .htaccess and config.php files have been created and have proper permissions. Without any real error message, I know it's tough to diagnose the problem but I thought someone might have seen something similar before (despite the absence of a case in the forums thus far according to my search). It's installed on my account on a University server that I obviously have little control over. There is another gallery running on the same server so I know this should be possible. Cheers!
