Time for Gallery "Lite"?

Hi everyone,

I do Gallery installs for a variety of sites, and I never use some of the more advanced features, skins, etc. I know that many of the great features of Gallery have been provided over time, making it pretty flexible for site architectures like phpNuke, etc.

However, there is a LOT of code in RC 1.53. There has been a lot of code in Gallery for as long as I can remember. It's getting so that uploading Gallery via FTP takes longer than to do a typical set-up.

I usually wrap my Galleries in the context of a website design, changing the html_wrap, or just using an iframe. I don't need upmteen skins, or other ways of showing off photo info. I just want to be able to create a simple Gallery, with thumbnails and a slideshow possibly.

Short of ripping files out of the Gallery zip archive, why doesn't someone compile a "Gallery Lite" edition?

Thanks for reading.

An appreciative longtime Gallery user,

K

Try Gallery 2 where you can choose to not upload/install pretty much every "feature" except the core parts. Of course, it is still a lot of files... but it does what you want. Baring that, I am looking forward to your release of a "gallery lite" with code stripped out... but I am not gonna hole my breath. Pulling some code out of gallery would be like trying to take a card out of the bottom of a card house... it'd prolly just fall over.
