Thumbnails have bad quality

When i upload an image the thumbnail is automatically created.
unfortunately the quality sucks.

I can't use exec,passthru and all the other commands of this group, so no way to use ImageMagick or NetPBM.
GD is running so far, but with this bad quality.

How can i solve this issue?

lol, you could call this a feature "facial distortion" :)

must be related to your php / GD, because it runs fine on other installations.
no idea what could cause this. already googled for other people having problems with image quality with GD (unrelated from gallery)?

I can only make a guess about the failure.
Where are the thumbnails beeing created (what scriptfile), so i can try myself to fix this?

take a look at the modules/gd/classes/ stuff
