Theme edit- Gallery main page, list format instead of blocks

I am using matrix theme/local/ theme.csssome minor mods
I want to change the top level Gallery page so the albums show 1 per row, with the thumb nail on the left and the album info/functions on the right (Centered).
If any one has already done similar or can help with how to do this, I would love some help.

did you try the classic theme?

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted. However I prefer the matix theme lay out when viewing photos in albums. I will try and make a custom theme comparing the two.

The photo view of classic is exactly the same as matrix.
Set your default theme to matrix and do edit album / album tab on your top level album and select classic.
