I am trying to edit some .tpl's to do some light customizing. I edit, save, refresh file, upload via FTP, then refresh the Browser. However, the theme does not change. I did read that SMARTY does accept HTML. I understand the {tags} somewhat but I just tried some simple text and html. I dont get it. Why does the browser NOT reflect the edited files?

- you need to edit the .tpl files of the theme that you're actually using
- you can click site admin -> maintenance -> delete template cache to force reevaluation of the themes
- if you customize a photo.tpl while only looking at a album page, you won't see your customizations
- ...

Hmmm...I tried the maintenance thing but still no changes.

FYI: I was editing the Classic>Templates>theme.tpl Default theme, right?

I am tired so I will tinker some more tommorrow night.

Matrix is the "default" theme for G2.

You can check the theme you're using here Site Admin > Themes or if you've changed it at the album level Edit Album > Theme

Have you tried viewing with different browsers? Clearing you local browser cache?

Maybe post a link to your site so someone else can see if they see your changes.

DOH! That was it! I was editing the wrong theme. Everything is good now. Thanks!

btw. Why are not the other themes loaded? I see them in the file structure but not on the Admin panel.

You probably just need to install them, or they could be out dated or just old data left over from B3. It all could depend on how you upgraded.

I don't know for sure.

You can check to see if you can install them by going to Site Admin > Themes > All Themes (tab)
