Hi!

Can one begin translating things on gallery2 already?

I have been experimenting a bit with the current CVS version and would like to
translate stuff. But if things are not really settled yet I can wait until it gets more
stable. Any serious text-changing planned before the first public release of G2?

I can translate things to de_DE and pt_BR. Or is anyone else in charge of this?

Sure you can go ahead. There's no guarantee that you won't have to go back at some point and maintain the translation a bit, but you can certainly get the bulk of it done.

The directions are in the docs/LOCALIZING file. You'll need to make sure you download gettext if you don't have it, and then compile it into PHP if it isn't already (you only need to do the PHP compile if you want to be able to see the web pages).

I recommend you use the Emacs po-mode that comes along with gettext, but it's not required. E-mail me with any questions, as I've gotten to know the translation stuff pretty well.

When you're done, you can e-mail the files to Bharat and he can update the codebase.

Thanks!

I installed G2 yesterday, migrated all my gallery to G2, an now I noticed it dont have all already translated...

Anyone has pt_BR for gallery 2.0.1?

I am an enginner, that loves to learn and I spent 5 hours yesterday, to noticed that I need to upgrade apache to make multilang module work, and I tried edit pt_BR file, but I was not sucessfull. If someone has a easy tutorial, I can translate it, and send the file to be inserted in gallery 2.0.1 package.

Thanks

you don't need to upgrade apache for multilang.
you need php with gettext support though.

and multilang is not the same as translations in g2. multilang is for you such that you can manually translate the names and descriptions of your images.
g2 translations translate the G2 user interface into various languages. which also requires php gettext.

see http://codex.gallery2.org -> translations on how to translate g2 into br.

My Idea is...

Get the english list of sentence in site to download, then each one, that knows or not about linux, can donwload that, write down each sentence, the sentence in your language and send it back, so, the g2 project can get the languages files faster.

1. you have to translate a list of sentences for each module.
so start with the core module, which is the largest and most important module
follow the instructions on the codex page.
there's even a fallback explanation for users without linux, read it again. copy one of the translation files and replace the strings with your own translation. it's all there.

first you must cd into modules/core/po/
and run
make messages.po

then, when your done, run

make install
(also in the same po directory)

@your error:
you need the G 2.0.1 development package or a cvs snapshot. G2.0.1. full is not enough.
