command for uploading photos from local directory

Since my gallery runs on the same machine as the fileserver with the photos on it, I like to be able to create an album from a directory from the commandline.

Currently I open the webpage and upload using a local directory. This requires me to leave all windows open while uploading. Can you guide me to the actions that are started at theserver to create the album? Since I'm a unix system engineer, I do know how to script it, it is just that I don't like to reverse-engineer it all.
