Aside from Gallery for websites, what do you people use for photo management software on your local system(s)?

I'm currently using Picasa. I'd like something with more features than Picasa offers. Also, the inner geek in me is always wanting to leave Windoze and jump on Linux full time. I don't mind paying for software, but it would be nice to find some software available on Linux and Windows.

At the risk of becoming known as the Photoshop Album pimp (this is my third post on Gallery's forums so far, and all have been about Album), have you considered Photoshop Album? 8)

The new version of Photoshop Elements 3 includes Album, combining it into one nice editing & management package.

...with the exception of course that it is available for Windows (and Mac) only. Sorry, I don't use Linux.

PIE & PIE Studio: http://www.hoju.de/
I started using this years ago and it really is wonderful in many ways. It has some very nice rename capabilities and its printing (avail in PIE Studio) is unmatched for flexibility.

IrfanView: http://www.irfanview.com/
I have only recently begun to use this program, but the more I use it the more I like it. Its UI takes a little getting used to, but its feature set is very impressive indeed. With its plugins there isn't much you can't do with this.

I also use Breezebrowser http://www.breezesys.com/ for some limited jpg work and just a bit of its RAW conversion (for canon cameras). One of the best things about this app is its rename function. It remembers any numbering from folder to folder and simplifies this process nicely.

That said I am sometimes baffled as to why some programs recognize jpg’s that have been rotated and others do not…but that’s for another posting.

enigma_edi- I'm also a PSE user. I did a lot of investigation, and found that the tagging in Elements was the most intuitive and scalable. I also like the fact that the database is nothing more than a JET file (i.e. MS Access) with a .psa extension. That means I can get at my tagging info with SQL...

... and that means I can write a script to import tags between PSE and G2.

It's all still a bit of a mess, and only works when the wind's blowing from the South-East, but it's looking promising. I'm planning on tidying it up and posting it once I get a chance (but I have more pressing G2 projects right now).

Anyhow, marke me down as a Photoshop vote. I also looked at ACD, Canto Cumulus, iPhoto, iMatch, PSP Album, and PhotoRecall.

I'm using ZoomBrowser EX 5, which is available for Canon Digital Cam's. Has some very nice features like adding keywords, Ratings but all the shooting info too. And adds links to the tools like photo printing.
I like the ZoomMode zooming into nested albums very much.

Some info is available from here http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/software/zbex5-e/index.html

I use breezebrowser for renaming and adding ITPC tags. ACDSEE for minor touch ups, Photoshop for serious intervention
