Hello folks,

I installed the new G2 beta2 yesterday and then tried to import from my old Gallery 1.3.3.
The old Gallery has 46 albums, 3041 photos. Due to the installation of the new Gallery made a very nice and clean impression to me I tried to import them all at once. Here is what went wrong:

1. G2 didnt recognize the users from my old gallery. But all albums were shown so I went on with import.

2. The import screen with the progress bar seemed to move very slow (about 30 Seconds/Picture). After 30 minutes or so I looked again at it and it had stopped at a small movie clip. The progress Bar still at the very beginning. Nothing happend so I closed and opened the new G2. All abums where shown but:

3. Some abum and a lot of picture thumbs are not shown.

4. I can´t access the resized (and also full) versions of a lot of photos.

5. Sometimes I get the thumbnails when I click on athumb to see the big version, sometimes no picture is shown, sometimes everthing is fine (depends on the picture).

6. The whole G2 is very slow. My gallery 1.3.3 works in lightspeed compared to this ;) (If somewone wants to compare I can hand out the Adress of the old gallery, just don´t want to post it here)

7. I tried to delete an album and it resulted in a blank page. The I moved the album into another abum, it worked. Trying to move it back doesnt work.

I dont´t know if this chaos can be solved ;) Perhaps you can tell me what to do to clear all the data and to try importing only one album at once. Is it enough to clear the database and the g2data directory?

Perhaps another Hint: I had installed the PHP Accelerator when I set up G2. I have disabled it now.

The first thing that I would recommend is to back up your gallery1.

Then upgrade your gallery1 to the latest version. Then, try turning off gd in gallery2 (but that's just my own prejudice against gd).

Then, reinstall g2 from scratch (use the latest nightly build, too) and try your import again.

Thanks for your reply jmullan,

I hav e now upgraded my old gallery to v1.5.

I deleted my previous install of G2 including the database and the data directory.

Then I took a nightly build (gallery2.2005-05-09-08-37-39) and installed it from scratch. Import recognized the users from my old gallery this time and I imported all the albums. Athough the progress bar on the import dialog didn´t move a millimeter I got the confirmation that import had finished after 10 minutes.

But when I opened my gallery I had the same problems as before. A lot of thumbs were not shown. And I coud not delete albums etc.

Then I remembered your prejudice against gd and set up NetPBM as the primary tool

As soon as I went back to my gallery page all the thumbnails were generated. And even the delete folder funktion is working now. Sounds strange but it really is working now ;)

But everything is really slow. I can not use it like this (server with 800Mhz/256MB). Is there a possibility that G2 directly links the pictures or at least the thumbnails? I know this is a security feature of G2 but don´t really need it. When it gains speed I would like to try it.

Thanks for your help so far!

Nick
