Gallery's behavior is to just use the movie icon as the thumbnail. You can change what the icon looks like globally for all movies, but not on a per-movie basis.

There are some mods that allow you to put movies in your gallery. You can also use ffmpeg (or some other app) and upload a "something.thumb.jpg" where something is the same name as the movie and gallery should use it.
G1 wasn't really designed with movies in mind, but if you would like to check out G2 it supports ffmpeg (a tool to work with movie files) and will even let you pick which frame the thumb is made from so I hear.

thanks a lot for the quick answers.
I tried uploading the "something.thumb.jpg" as you eyplained, but wasn't really successful.
i will try to upgrade to G2, sounds like the best option.
thx

well, you would name it after the movie. so if the movie was called "aaa.mov" then the thumb should be called "aaa.thumb.jpg" see?
also, keep in mind that G2 is beta AND does require mysql.
