Ok...I already feel like an idiot for deleting it, so no need to make me feel any worse than I already do.

I upgraded to the latest version and somewhere along the way had a problem, so I reinstalled gallery from scratch and used the old g2data folder (possibly my problem?). I removed the locks folder after I received an error during the web-based installation about not being able to create certain folders, etc. Thumbnails stopped showing up and the resized images, but the fullsize ones do come up once I click to enlarge.

After trying to recreate thumbnails and resized images (getting errors about the lock files not existing), I figured I would attempt to switch to using database locking. This seemed to fix my problem, for the most part anyway. However, access to the site seems a little slower now...obviously due to the database queries.

Long story short: Reinstalled gallery, removed lockfiles, How can I go about regenerating the lock files so I don't have to use database locking anymore?

run the installer just up to the step where it creates the g2data directory.. enter a NEW path here. after it has created the new g2data directory you can move the locks directory from that one into your existing g2data. i don't think you're missing any lock files, just the directories where it creates lock files.
