you customized the area around G2, not G2 itself. I'd recommend customizing G2's theme/layout too. Just forget for a moment the how G2 looks, what the default G2 looks like. Sketch your website, sketch how collection of thumbnails should look like in your webpage and how a single image should look like. what options/descriptions should be visible, what colors, ...
Then start customizing G2 (css, templates, theme, ..) until it looks like that.
something like: http://siriux.net/photos/main.php shows you that you can make G2 look as if it wasn't G2, and you can do even much more.

Remove the view-count of items, at least until you have a lot of views (or fake it).
