I see that it tells me I can not use that /v prefix but it puts it in there anyway, I have no idea how to get rid of it. The server is running apache 1.3.3 and everything sets up correctly but if I actually enable the short url everything breaks due to that /v prefix

"There's two diffrent modes URL Rewrite works in. Either you use the prefix method which will put a prefix before all URLs (ie /v/ by default for viewing items), or you may disable the prefix. Once activated, you can change the prefixes as desired."

I don't want the prefix, selecting no doesn't change that it's there. Once activated I have no idea how to change the prefix or remove it.

didn't experiment with it, but what about going to main.php -> site admin -> modules -> deactivate/uninstall url rewrite module?
and in site admin -> general, deactivate short urls.

Did you hit the save button?

In order to disable prefixes you need to
1) Select no in the drop down menu
2) Save
3) Write the .htaccess file
4) Activate the module
And your set.

If you use prefixes there will be a URL Rewrite link in the Site Admin navigation where you may change the prefixes. If you chose not to use prefixes, it wont show up and you have to deactivate/uninstall in order to change mode in which rewrite works in.

Hmm... maybe do not catch the idea.. but i've removed /v/ prefix simply in admin URL rewrite and that's works perfectly... www.fimp.ru/g2/koktebel - no prefix /v/ is needed..
