I just installed G2 and I'm logged into my forum and site as admin, but can't login to Gallery. When I try to register, it says there's already a user called admin.

The site is www.wenospeak.com

Thanks,

Rick

I tried that and it still says on the right side:

Welcome Guest Register Login

When I click on Login and enter "admin" and "mypassword" it takes me right back to the same page with Welcome Guest Register Login

????????

It's definitely a different inteface, but there's no admin options.....

clear your cookies. if you're working with embedding G2 you should be aware that the session cookie you get when accessing G2 embedded can block the cookie you get going directly to G2.

Well,

That worked, but I had to delete all my cookies. Now I can access the Gallery admin panel, however, I'm logged out of my main site.

Is there a simple solution to being logged in as admin to both the Gallery and my main site at the same time?

Thanks again for your very prompt responses - you have no idea how close to "panic" I'm at....

Thanks again,

Rick

I had a similar issue with my G2 install...

I'm just running stand alone.. killing off the cookies for my domain fixed my issue.

wenospeak, ChrisJohnson00TA,

You have to delete only the cookies called "GALLERYSID".
Browsers like Firefox let you delete specific cookies only, so that you don't need to lose all your sessions with other websites.

wenospeak, go, install Firefox. Internet Explorer is obsolete, really obsolete ;)

ChrisJohnson00TA, this issue isn't related to Firefox or IE. It's just about the GALLERYSID cookie. I'm quite sure this issue only occurs when dealing with embedded and standalone G2 installations at the same time.

I'm not running an embedded gallery.. just strictly stand alone.

Just an FYI, and I'm sure you know this already.. I've had the same issues with IE, Opera and now Firefox...

- did you have a G2 installation before?
- do you have to delete the cookies again and again or does it work now as it should?
- is it G2 beta 1 or an older version?

I'm running my first install of G2...

Yes, I can delete the cookies, and then I can log back in.

This is the latest CVS download done on March 4 2005.

Sorry...

What happens is, I can be working on my gallery, and, for example, I change the layout of the gallery.

When I go back to my main page, and click refresh, I'm now logged out, and can't log back in.

The only way I can re-log in, is to kill off the cookie.

I can repeat it about 90% of the time in IE and Opera.. it happens less often ( 25% of the time or so ) with firefox.

It also seems to be session timeout related.

It seems that if I let my gallery 'sit' for an hour ( thats what I have my settings at, 1 hour idle, etc ) and I refresh.. I have to kill the cookie in order to log back in... with IE, it's been every time ( 100% ) and only once with firefox.

I'm not sure what's going on, but my gallery is for registered users only, so you have to log into my main site first to see it.

However, once logged in, all you can do is view the gallery - not log in. There isn't even a log in option. I deleted the cookie mentioned earlier and the cookies for my site as well, and still couldn't log in.

It seems the only way to log into the gallery admin section is for me to delete ALL cookies.

The problem with that is I have to log back into my site to access the admin section.

Whaaaa????

wenospeak, if you are using firefox, go to tools->options->view cookies-> sort the cookies by site and delete just tge GALLERYSID cookie for the site you have problems with.
this works, believe me. if you delete the cookies with another method or if you delte it, but you still have the GALLERYSID in your current URL in the addressbar of your browser, it won't work.

yes, i see this problem as a bug. i hope mindless can resolve it. i have to work on non-G2 things today.

I installed G2 Beta yesterday and encoutered the same problem; deleting the cookie solved it, however it's definitely to be considered "unexpected behavior" aka as a bug... :-?

if someone posts the steps to reproduce this behavior from a clean install I might take a look.. none of the above descriptions really give me anything to go on.

stegh, wenospeak, ChrisJohnson00TA,
please let us know if you can reproduce the error. starting poing is to delete all your cookies. then try to reproduce the error. if you are "successful", please post a message with a step-by-step guide how to reproduce the error.
otherwize we can't fix this bug, because we don't see it.

I am having a similar problem. If I log into either my embedded or my standalone G2 (individually, not simultaneously) I am logged out as soon as I click anything. This is not the embedded vs standalone simultaneous login problem, I used the fix obtained here :
http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=29223&highlight=login
and don't have to deal with that. My problem is that it doesn't seem to store my logged in state at all, either when I'm using embedded or standalone individually.

devinerickson, I will come back to you as a test person when we have implemented our fix.

@all:
Committed the fix to the cvs. Get the next nightly snapshot (in about 9 hours) from http://galleryupdates.jpmullan.com/ to test if it works for you now.

PS: when you upgrade to the current cvs / nightly snapshot, please delete all GALLERYSID cookies in your browser, hopefully for the last time. it is a requirement that the old GALLERYSID cookies are not present when using the new cookies.

I am now using the gallery2 version updated to the cvs on 04-27-2005 03:36:52 AM. Unfortunately, the embedded login does not work. After logging in, my state is not stored past the initial page. How can I even tell if the state is being stored in a cookie? I have noticed that the values in the "picgaltest/" cookie change once i log on, but it's just a string of numbers that i don't understant.

devinerickson, did you clear out old cookies before testing? (as mentioned above)
do you see any other GALLERYSID cookies in your browser other than "picgaltest/" path?

Valiant, I'm embedding G2 in Mambo and using the site www.starvingcoder.com/test2 as a test site. If you pm me I could give you mambo/gallery admin.

mindless, yes i cleared out my cookies and tested it on both browsers. No I did not have any other cookies in my browser other than "picgaltest/" (when I accessed the embedded gallery) or "gallery2/" (when i accessed the standalone gallery).

devinerickson, http://www.starvingcoder.com/test2/gallery2/install/ seems as if you needed to install G2 first?

and yes, if you gave me some login data, i'd be glad to test it. first round, a G2/mambo login. maybe i can see the problem when looking at the cookies i get. 2nd round: something like ssh or control panel/ftp access, for debugging.

devinerickson, as i told you in the pm, the problem lies in the mambo integration code you are using. take a look at the newest code in the mambo integration topic in the g2 dev forum.
