Upgrading Users
The user database in your gallery was created with an older version of the software and is out of date. This is not a problem! We will upgrade it. This may take some time. Your data will not be harmed in any way by this process. Rest assured, that if this process takes a long time now, it's going to make your gallery run more efficiently in the future.

If you get an error, and only some users are upgraded, try refreshing the page to upgrade remaining users.

lanternwaste, did you create an albums dir in /home/content/l/a/n/lanternwaste/html/gallery/gallery/ and chmod it 777?

/me slaps lanternwaste :-)

You need to create a directory called albums, by default inside your Gallery dir. Then you need to change permissions on that directory, so Gallery is able to read and write to it. Check your ftp clients documentation on how to do permission changes or chmod with it.

first off, you hit like a girl.

secondly, i created a folder called 'albums' and place it inside of my 'gallery' folder. i'm using Fetch FTP. it gives me the option to change permissions for Owner, Group, and Everyone. I changed Owner and Group to Read, Write, and Search/Execute.

that didnt seem to help the situation but i'm sure i'm doing something wrong.

i was also curious as to why my name, lee gilmore, came up in the url as i never supplied that info to gallery

OK, my 'albums' folder is now set up for everyone to 'read, write, search/execute'. i did this for user permissions as well as upload permissions. still the same error:

Is (/home/lee_gilmore/cobra-kai.com/gallery/albums/ the correct path to your albums dir, or is it (/home/lee_gilmore/cobra-kai.com/gallery/gallery/albums/ as your URL suggests?

it's "/home/lee_gilmore/cobra-kai.com/gallery/gallery/albums/" i initially made root folder called 'gallery' and then put the program folder 'gallery' nested within it. do i need to redo this and leave gallery at the top level?

lanternwaste, no, but you need to re-run the config wizard and specify the correct path to it.

i re-uploaded gallery and made new config and htaccess files. set my permissions correctly. and that got me pretty far until i came to this error on the last setup page.

Error: Directory /home/content/l/a/n/lanternwaste/html/albums does not exist. Please create it.

Error: Missing value: Temporary directory!

i created an 'albums' folder inside 'html' and did all my refreshing, but no dice.

You need to put in the real path to is, if home/content/l/a/n/lanternwaste/html/albums is wrong...

I tried using the default /home/content/l/a/n/lanternwaste/html/albums

but i get an error saying the directory does not exist, please create one.

so i created a folder called 'albums' and put in the 'html' folder

ive also tried thinking of every possible path name and it still gives me the same error message

the gallery should be: http://cobra-kai.com/gallery/gallery

c.32 does me no good. it tells me to change the config.php code. but if i'm uploading a blank config.php like you're telling me to...i cant even get far enough in the setup to save it. therefore it's always blank with nothing for me to rewrite.

i even deleted everything and tried adding gallery to my top level and it STILL isnt working.

i dont know why 404 errors are coming up. the folders are there. do you need my ftp info to see what the heck i'm talkign about?????

Where do you see that FAQ Gallery:c.32 tell you do edit config.php???

Create the file, upload it into your albums dir, open it in your browser and it will tell you the path.

No, I will not login to your FTP server.

am i supposed to be putting the .htaccess and config.php files into my 'albums' folder on the top level of gallery with the huge list of over goods?

and:
.32 is about uploading NetPBM or ImageMagick binaries to my site.

i assumed you wanted me to look at .33 since it is about random 404 errors coming up.

under which it says:::::

"When I try to enter an album, I get a 404 error. What's up?

One of two things in happening

*

The Gallery URL you specified during the configuration wizard is incorrect. Verify that the value you specified does indeed point to where Gallery is installed.
*

mod_rewrite is not working. Edit your config.php file and change this line:

$gallery->app->feature["rewrite"] = 1;

to

$gallery->app->feature["rewrite"] = 0;

lanternwaste, when I point you to FAQ Gallery:c.32, please don't asume that I don't mean it and disregard my advice. If you don't want help, fine with me.

i'm just trying to understand. we were talking about 404 problems, not the other stuff.

i put configs in both my root folder and albums folder and neither give me any information

Well...how many days do I have to wait? It never updates and until it does I cannot get any farther into the config wizard. How do I either remove existing users to add new ones or get past this error. Trying to upgrade existing installation.
