Is the php setting memory_limit = 8M a problem for G2? Can it work with this or does it have to be adjusted?

These people are offering a good deal, but they have informed me that they use this setting:

As I recall, l when I attempted to install G2 on my existing space (and Bharat kindly assisted), it threw up an error message asking me to load an HTACCESS file, changing 8M to 16M.

Is this just a data transfer setting so maybe not really critical, or does it obstruct G2?

Thanks.

My G2 install was throwing errors until I used the following:

memory_limit = 16m

OK. So you conclude that you can't run G2 with 8m?

And what does this mean, anyway - is it file transfer capacity?

I don't know what limits are appropriate but I do know you'll want it higher if you use the Gd module.. with Gd the image manipulations are done in php (not external binaries like imagemagick/netpbm) so more memory is used by php. This is the memory usage for php.. not to do with file transfers.

When i tried to install G2 I got errors and a prompt to upload an htaccess file changng 8m to 16m. It seems that you can't run G2 on that sever, so i'm wondering

1) Do you need a company that runs or allows 16m, because it can't run on 8m

2) Can you change this with the htaccess file, and everything should be Ok

3) If not - anyone know a good UK company wit the 16m setting?
