As I said, I am a photographer who knows nothing about programing. But I would like to contribute some reference so you may consider some of the most famous photo sites' strengths in their interface. http://creative.gettyimages.com/source/home/home.aspx See if these can help you in improving the interface. |

Almost all of these sites look like they could be emulated with themes and layouts, I think. I didn't really see anything that suggested their were much different from how G2 currently looks like and functions, have you installed G2 or looked at any of the demo sites?
It would probably help a LOT more if you compared G2 with some of these sites and the features about them you find the most appealing. Just saying "hey, these are some great photo sites" doesn't help a whole lot because it means someone has to visit the site and figure out what you mean. And what if they don't realize what it is you liked about them and didn't like?
Give em some specifics, anything is possible if they know what is desired, how it should look/work and why.

Sorry for the late reply as I was in Sri Lanka covering the tsunami. You can
see some photos on my gallery:
http://www.kwongyuen.net/modules.php?set_albumName=srilanka&op=modload&name=
gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=1
You know I am not on the technical side so I don't know if my suggestion
given before would help at all. For my own experience in using the Gallery,
I think you may consider the following things:
1) Is it possible for the administrator to decide whether the text
information to appear in different locations of the page or even when the
mouse roll over the image. This would give tremendous freedom for the user.
2) I think it would be valuable if the administrator could configure a
copyright disclaimer page when the users try to upload or download images.
This is very useful for the site which allow user to upload or download
images.
3) In many of the cases, I think simple is beauty. If the administrator
could select whether a specific album would be display in an
independent/pop-up blank page with only the arrows to browse the photos,
that would make the viewing more enjoyable. As I said, the Gallery is very
powerful for me now, and the most important thing is to make it more
appealing.
I hope my ideas would help.

I think G2 allready can do point number 3. Someone just has to write the layout for it. But an almost that what you ask layout is the "slider" layout (But I can't test that because it doesn't work (yet) on my version of G2)

bananabear, all of the features that you want can be done as a plug-n-play layout. Try activating different layouts in G2 and playing with them to get an idea of what's available. Also, take a look at the Demo Sites sticky thread in this forum to see some custom layouts like the one that Nico Kaiser did.
